I often go to repair AC units at apartments. When there is no certified HVAC repair person on the staff and crew, it is necessary to call a repair company. I have several different apartment buildings that I regularly service. Last weekend, I went to help a guy with an air conditioner problem. I was certain that the issue with the air conditioner was going to be frozen evaporator coils. The guy said that the air conditioner was blowing warm air and there was water on the carpet in front of the closet where the AC machine is located. When I knocked on the door of the apartment, I heard a bunch of guys start to move around. I heard voices and lots of things being shuffled. I finally got someone to open the door after 2 or 3 minutes and too aggressive knocks on the door. The guys opened the apartment and the place smelled like marijuana. The smell of marijuana was strong, but I really didn’t care. I also use recreational marijuana products. I told the guys that I really wasn’t interested in what they were doing in the apartment. They could happily continue with their business while I worked on the AC machine. It didn’t take very long for me to remove the ice from the coils. I keep a hair dryer in my work tool bag for this very purpose. It’s actually really easy for a homeowner to fix this problem if they have a hair dryer too. You need to melt the ice on the coils and then you can restart the machine.
