I got my wife one of those vacuum cleaners that mops and vacuums at the same time.
She really wanted one.
I was completely fine with just using an old fashioned vacuum and mop myself but she insisted that this would make her life easier. Since she does do more of the house work than I do, I finally agreed. I wish I hadn’t. It is not that the mop vacuum doesn’t work well. It does. The problem is that we have been parking the wet vacuum over our HVAC vent in the kitchen for just over a year now. It didn’t seem to be a problem. We have 4 vents in the kitchen alone. However, the HVAC company we use for repairs recently infrared us that we have done a lot of damage to our ductwork. The dripping water has been going down inside of the ductwork all of that time and now the ductwork is all rusted out underneath the kitchen area. It is going to have to be replaced. That dirty water is also the source of the smell in the house. The house has been smelling really musty and old lately. I wonder why! Anyhow, we are getting the ductwork replaced. The ductwork that doesn’t need replacing is getting cleaned. In fact, our entire HVAC system is getting serviced just to make sure this doesn’t cause any permanent damage. And, from now on, the mop vacuum is getting parked in the garage on top of a rubber mat. Hopefully it can’t do any damage in there.
