A few years ago, I felt sort of lost when the kids were all out of the house and either in college or starting their adult lives.
That was a really tough period for me.
I was a stay at home mom and raising my kids was my job and my passion. They turned out great. But the house was so incredibly empty when they were all gone. It was so quiet in the house that I could hear each time the heating and cooling came on. My husband was still doing his routine of heading off to the zone controlled HVAC of his office. So while it was a change for him as well when it was just me and him sharing the central air conditioning, he adjusted. I did not. So I reached out for some help and started seeing a therapist. It was such the right thing to do as I was able to change my perspective from just mom to just me. And I started getting back to my passion for throwing clay. I actually was an art major in college and pottery was my medium. But once the kids came along, I just didn’t have the time or the money to rent space any longer. These days, that’s all changed as I actually have my own studio in the backyard. My husband and I bought a premade storage building and created a studio. The crowning glory was having the HVAC professionals come in and install a ductless heat pump in my new pottery space. Life is so much more rich now that I’ve jumped back into a deeply held passion. It’s so comfortable out there with the ductless heat pump that my husband comes to just hang out and watch me do my thing.
