Last year, during the middle of the summertime heat and humidity, we put dehumidifiers around our house.
Our HVAC system was new enough to combat most of the humidity while running our air conditioner, but we wanted the extra protection from the moisture. Moisture from humidity can cause a lot of severe problems around a house such as mold, mildew, and bacteria. Our house is older and more susceptible to these things, which is why we wanted to get the dehumidifiers in the first place. We purchased two dehumidifiers and placed them in specific areas. First, we placed one in the main living room right beside the entryway to the kitchen. This was the largest space in our house and it was where we spent the most time. We felt like putting a dehumidifier here was our best option. The second dehumidifier went in the hallway where all the bedrooms were. We didn’t want to place a dehumidifier in each of the bedrooms, but the hallway was a common area. Everyone kept their doors open for the most part, so the dehumidifier would have no problem removing the moisture from the air from the bedrooms. We knew the dehumidifiers would eliminate a little bit of moisture from the air, but we were shocked to see just how much it was collecting. We didn’t think we would need the dehumidifiers during the winter months because the humidity wasn’t as bad, but as soon as we removed them, nobody in the house could sleep! We were all so accustomed to hearing the dehumidifier run in the hallway that it acted as a sound machine. Now, we have to leave the dehumidifier in the hallway all year long.
