There’s a myriad of reasons why people have suddenly decided to stop going out to shop. That transition was going on long before the COVID-19 pandemic. However, of course the pandemic has exacerbated the situation to the point where people have gotten rather used to being hermits, nearly. I can’t say that I entirely blame them. One of the reasons I like to shop online these days is because some of the stores I frequent always have the climate control all wrong. The supermarket that I go to is nearly always freezing, and not just in the freezer aisle or the dairy aisle, mind you. But I don’t want to wear an extra layer when it’s hot as blazes outside, which it is! I have to choose between shivering and having chattering teeth inside the store or being relatively comfortable inside the store and then being very hot and sweaty on my trip in and out of the parking lot! There’s also a clothing store that I rather like, apart from its seeming lack of air conditioning. They have a great selection of clothing and great deals now and again. However, I only feel the barest wisp of cool air coming from above me when I’m in that store. Let me sit in my pajamas in my own home, set the thermostat to whatever temperature I like, and do all the shopping in the world! Call me lazy or antisocial for it, but at least I’m comfortable, and I don’t need to apologize for that!
